When Lori and John Amar met Belle they knew they had to bring her home to Canada. It was love at first sight. When the two met Pili- another special canine at the Amazon Cares sanctuary a few hours later- there was no doubt on their minds that she too needed to be a part of their family.
John and Lori are exceptional humans from Canada who periodically travel to the Iquitos region of Peru to help strays and injured animals. They single handedly funded a spay and neuter program through Amazon Cares, a local rescue organization who took in Belle after she was hit by a car and left on the road for dead.
Luckily, the world is home to wonderful humans like those at Amazon Cares and the ‘Amars’, who- though with limited resources- work around the clock to make a difference in the lives of the abandoned, discarded and injured. After months of rehabilitation and tedious preparation to fly the two dogs between countries, Pili and Belle arrived in Canada in September and were reunited with John and Lori as well as Negrita, another one of the Amar’s Peruvian rescues.
Aside from their country of origin, the canines share another common trait: their impressive ears. Belle and Pili adapted to the cooler climate without difficulty, though they had to be quarantined for a few weeks. Belle and Pili are living happily in the company of Negrita, Yuki and Osi the feline family members, all part of the beyond loving home of John and Lori.
The world needs more people like these two and the ones at Amazon Cares.
A huge thank you to the team at Amazon Cares who work around the clock to make a difference in the lives of thousands of strays.
To help more dogs like Pili and Belle you can donate at Amazon Cares.
